The 2007-2008 Sunday House Concerts

House Concerts offer vibrant performances the way chamber music was meant to be heard - in informal and intimate settings in private homes. Since seating is limited, advance ticket purchases are required. Tickets for members and their guests are $25 for all ages.

October 28, 2007 – Trio St. Germain
3:00 pm in Redding, Connecticut

Trio St. Germain a vital and exciting new force on the New York chamber music scene, is driven by its desire to share with audiences the vast array of textures and colors that this unique combination has to offer. They feature newly commissioned works frequently on their programs, specifically championing new works by esteemed composers such as Atli Heimir Sveinnson, Robert Paterson, and Bruce Reiprich. all three members bring a wealth of experience drawing from their varied musical and international backgrounds. The members hail from South Africa, South Korea and Canada. All three are sought after performers appearing with Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, American Modern Ensemble, New York Philomusica, Orchestra of St. Luke’s and the New York Philharmonic.

 

November 18, 2007 – Sangyoung Kim – Piano
3:00 p.m. in Westport, Connecticut

  Twenty-three years old pianist Sangyoung Kim has played the piano since she was 4 years old. Ms. Kim graduated from Yewon Art School and Seoul High School of Art and obtained a diploma from the Korean National Institution of Art as a student of Kyung Sook Lee before coming to the United States.

    Ms. Kim received the highest honors from the both schools and won the Music Award from Yewon Art School. Other honors include numerous prizes from the national competitions in Korea, 1st Prize from the New England Conservatory Concerto Competition (2004) and the Heida Hermanns International Piano Competition (2006).

     Recent recitals have included performances at Chopin Hall, Kumho Gallery, Kumho Art Hall, Norris Cultural Art Center in Illinois and Courchevel Music Festival in France. As a soloist, she also performed with the Seoul Symphony Orchestra, the Yewon Orchestra, NEC Philhamonia Orchestra and the Concord Orchestra.

     Since 2002, Sangyoung Kim has been studying at New England Conservatory of Music with Wha Kyung Byun and Russell Sherman. She is a recipient of the Carol and Robert T. Henderson Presidential Scholarship Award (2006-Present)

April 27, 2008, Scarborough Trio –
3:00 pm Westport, Connecticut

The Scarborough Trio combines Erin Lesser, flute; Gina Valvano, bassoon; and Tom Cuffari, piano; to create an exceptionally talented and dynamic ensemble. The Trio won the Silver Medal at the 2004 Fischoff International Chamber Music Competition and gave its professional debut concert at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Hall as the winner of the 2003 Artist International Competition.

 

May 18, 2008 Elisa Vilbergsdottir – Soprano
3:00 pm Wilton, Connecticut

Elísa S. Vilbergsdóttir was born and raised on the west coast of Iceland. After graduating from the Singing School of Reykjavík, she left for Germany and studied there from 1999-2003. During her studies in Germany she sang at Galas and Concerts in Germany and Iceland. In the fall of 2003, she studied with Ms Laura Brooks Rice at Westminster Choir College of Rider University, from which she graduated in 2005 with Masters in Voice Performance and Pedagogy. Apart from School projects, Elísa has sung the part of “Agathe” in Der Freischütz with the Summer Opera in Iceland, “Donna Elvira” in Don Giovanni with Echo Valley Community Arts in Montpelier, VT and participated successfully in International Vocal Competitions. She won first prize at Heida Hermanns Competition 2004, encouragement awards at both Marian Anderson Competition 2004 and at the National Council Auditions of the Metropolitan Opera 2005, and in the year 2006 she won second prize in the Wagner Division of the Liederkranz Competition.

Elísa is now living in Germany and her engagements include recordings of an Icelandic Song CD and a Christmas DVD with Junge Oper Lübeck.
